The 29th EPS Conference on Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion,
held in the Montreux Congress Centre, was organised on behalf of the European Physical Society (EPS) by
the Centre de Recherches en Physique des Plasmas, Lausanne, Switzerland. The conference programme included
topics in the areas of: 'Basic plasma physics', 'Magnetic confinement experiments',
'Inertial confinement, Laser plasmas, short pulse phenomena',
'Low temperature plasmas', 'Astrophysical and geophysical plasmas', 'Plasma and magnetic confinement theory and modelling',
'Plasma edge physics', 'Plasma heating', 'Plasma diagnostics',
'Plasma application, processing, Radiation generation, Dusty plasmas'.
Three specialist sessions had been added covering the subjects of :
'Laser Plasma Particle Acceleration', 'Edge, SOL and Divertor Plasma Turbulence and Transport' and
'Dusty and Complex Plasmas'.
The scientific programme and paper selection were the responsibility of the
International Programme Committee appointed by the Board of the EPS Plasma Physics Division.
This committee selected 30 invited talks and attributed 36 oral presentations. The majority of the
contributed papers (450) were presented as posters in 4 sessions. The responsibility for the scientific content of
the specialist sessions had been assigned to independent programme committees. Together, the specialist sessions account
for 59 oral presentations and 59 posters.
This volume of the series Europhysics Conference Abstracts comprises the list of contributed papers
(oral and poster) presented at the conference under the condition that the 4-page paper had been received via ELISE.
It is accompanied by a CD-ROM which holds the actual papers to be read using freely available software
(e.g. web-browsers, ACROBAT reader).
As in the past, the invited papers will be refereed and published in a special issue of the IOP journal
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion. A copy of this publication will be sent to each registered delegate.
The ELISE conference submission engine has been further developed for this conference to handle both the submission
of the abstracts and the 4-page papers. This system proofed to be a major benefit for the organisation of
the conference and made it possible to have these proceedings available within a short delay.
The organisers and the editors would like to thank all participants for using this system, which will become
the standard for future conferences of this series.
